My pilot episode will be a fun, fresh and upbeat music magazine show that aims to feature new and exclusive performances of existing artists as well as showcasing upcoming ones. It will mainly be the pop genre with artists from the charts in order to appeal to the majority of the target audience of the AB demographic 16-25 year olds. The show will fit the core values and ethos of Channel 4 as it's a platform for every artist to be creative and diverse. My presenters will fit the pre-watershed by being respectable, well-mannered and fun without being rude and obnoxious. The intertextuality will be evident from the opening credits of the show that will draw likeness from Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. This will be seen in the mise en scene, location and actions taking place in the opening of the show. The intertextuality will continue into the first segment of my show with the music video clip that will be inspired by Shawn Mendes' There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back. After this clip is shown, the first interview will take place. This will be set in an outdoors festival-style studio that will be made up with bohemian and random props to give it that edgy, funky festival feel. There will then be a link to the second main section that is going to take place in New York thanks to a green screen. This will be another interview with a similar style of camera shots to the first section but with a lot less props because of the location. Lighting will be high key and bright throughout to maintain the upbeat vibe of the show. The show's logo will be on the back of interview cards as well as edited on top of the main sections of the show to maintain brand identity. The Channel 4 logo will be edited on in a similar way. The two social groups that I am going to represent in my music magazine show are a White British woman and a young Scottish male. The woman will be my main show presenter and she will fit the stereotype of an average TV presenter who is knowledgeable and light hearted without being too forceful on the show. The mise en scene of her clothes will match the fun brief of the show as well as being slightly quirky for the main festival studio scene. The second representation within my show is the young Scottish male who will be mainly represented through his accent. Additional representations of his nationality will be in the way he talks, using colloquial phrases like 'aye' and 'wee'. The mise en scene of his clothes will be very stereotypical of a young man. As well as targeting the culturally sophisticated audience through the diverse artists that are featured on the show, there will be a mention of the upcoming competition that is for a season's skiing pass in Vermont. This high calibre prize is aimed at the higher demographic sophisticated audience.
My website will be as equally colourful and creative as my show is. There will be the same logo of mine and Channel 4 featured throughout on the header for every page, to maintain the strong link to show. When the viewer first visits my site there will be a pop up box welcoming them to the website and the show. On the main home page the first feature will be the latest episode. This will be embedded and made to look as if it's updated every week. To the side of this there will be a box with the full logo on it, displaying the scheduled time of new episodes. Beneath this there will be the introduction to this week's main artists. In this case, the young Scottish male is the feature so there will be extra background information on him that has not been mentioned in the show. There will be the mise en scene of images from his hometown to reinforce and represent his identity. It will mention his charity work with SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health. Then there is the next featured artist, this is the pop start being interviewed in New York. There will be an American presence here to highlight the location of the interview and internationality of both artist and show. This will also be seen in the mise en scene of the images used. The hover boxes used on Channel 4's Great British Bake Off website will be referenced here for the next section as there will be hover boxes with information on other mentioned artists and the competition. The competition box will have more information than previously mentioned on the show as well as a link to a separate page on the site where viewers can actually enter. Then there will be the extra audio visual content of the behind the scenes and extra footage. This is key for the interaction of the viewer and each image behind the video, for its background, will be linked to it. An example of this would be a tartan image behind the extra clips of the young Scottish male and the New York skyline behind the NY interview behind the scenes. This element of extra clips for the viewer to watch was inspired by the BBC Music Glastonbury website as well as the Strictly Come Dancing website that I studied. My site aims to take the ideologies of these sites with their sophisticated layout of the clips and elevate it to an interactive, youthful and fun design. The final section on my homepage will be advertising for aspiring musicians to send in their videos to make their own 'Real Music Show'. This will have an image with a linke to the website's contact page. This page will have links to a working email, youtube, twitter and instagram account. These social media links will be visible on every page in the footer and made recognisable by their logos. The interactive social media element allows the programme to have cross media convergence that promotes the show on many different platforms. This allows it to reach a larger audience as well as generate publicity online, which is the easiest way to reach the digital native target audience. The final page will be all about the show and its presenters. This has the ideologies of the show and background information on both of the presenters, as well as outlining the importance of this being two strong females.
It is very important to maintain synergy between products as it allows the show to maintain a clear brand that can be marketed as a singular product to its audience. My programme and website will achieve synergy in several ways. Firstly, this will be demonstrated in the clear links between the two products. The website will be continually mentioned throughout the show by saying that there is more information on the website. This will be illustrated in the extra details on the featured artists as well as the music video and New York interview being available separately. Furthermore, the website itself will show its clear links to the programme as the latest episode is embedded at the very top of the homepage. There will also be visible synergy between the products in the fonts and colours used. These will be taken from the show logo that I will create and then seen in headings on the website and the pop up texts in the episode. The website will have some unique content in the form of the 'Real Music Show' and the introduction to the presenters. The website needs its own unique selling points to attract viewers because if it was a direct reflection of the show, it wouldn't have any individuality. The use of social media sites continues the synergy across media platforms. It allows viewers to access the show, outside of TV scheduling, in more ways than one. It deliberately targets the digital native audience that use social media everyday. This is useful to the channel as it is a continuous promotion of their ideology to foster the new and experimental in television.
Thoughtful preparation Grace, but I'm afraid that the form for the SofI has two sections, one for each production, so you will need to add detail for your website in terms of your intent.
